12D KOROWAI - ASMAT EXPLORE

Tour Itinerary :
Day.1st : JAYAPURA – DEKAI (B,L,D)
Upon your early arrival at Sentani airport of Jayapura from your Indonesia gate way, meeting service and the luggage clearance direct check in for local flight to Dekai – located at the upper reaches of brazza river, with estimation time Etd 13:00 pm. Eta 14:00. We will spend the night in Simple hotel or Losmen in Dekai, while your guide prepare enough food/logistic for during the tour and also report/get stamp for your travel permit (Surat Jalan). dinner will be served in a small warung (food stalls).

Day.2nd : DEKAI – KOROWAI (B,L,D).
We have early breakfast, by car transfer to Lokpond harbour for about 45minutes to get a Motorized boat chartered for about 8-9 hours of drive are to be expected, amazing virgin forest all way down through the brazza river up to the river mouth of sirets, where we take a lunch break in the river band, then we continue our journey on upstream passing wild romantic open fluvial topography. The river sirets is getting wilder and wilder with pebble banks and rapids. Mighty trees are spread over the water and at some spot mighty dams of driftwood block nearly the whole course of the river. To get through this smoothly requires enough day light and a well experience coxswain. We expect to reach our stage goal in Mabul at 4 -5 o’clock for local time. Mabul is Korowai base here we arrange porters for the next day trekking into the jungle (b,l,d).

Day.3rd : JUNGLE TREKKING (B,L,D).
Enjoy our breakfast prepared by our cook, then meet all crew, our complete luggage and food for the following days will be partitioned to the porters then we leave Mabul by trekking to the interior to explore Korowai clandestine about 4 hours to reach the destination. Late afternoon we will meet and warm greet with Korowai people and open our tent in the shelter while cook prepare food for dinner.

Day.4th : KOROWAI ACTIVITY (B,L,D).
Today we accompany day the Korowai family into the nearby sago trees (the family of palm), there we experience a spectacle from another world the forest nomad fell a hug sago palm tree and smash the pith totally.. Afterward the woman wash it in primitive washing ways or filtered process to separate flower and waste as for the basic food for the jungle people. In the afternoon back to the tree houses and in the evening our cook performs a real jungle dinner, maybe we have sago pancake es and plantain, every day the kitchen surprises us with different exotic jungle treats.

Day. 5th : JUNGLE TREKKING (B,L,D).
Enjoy our breakfast, our complete luggage and equipment will be partitioned to the porters, continue our trekking to explore the next korowai clandestine, trekking though the path with many wood and stream where our porters cut the trees organizing the temporary bridge we have to passthrough, The totally trekking about 4-5 hour to reach the village / clandestine. Stay the 2nd night in our tent. Time available to accompany korowai woman into the jungle to see how their daily life style and activity such gathering food/vegetable, to see how korowai woman catching fish and cooking by primitive ways, and korowai man searching sago warms and making a traps by traditional ways.

Day.6th : JUNGLE TRECKING BACK TO MABUL (B,L,D).
Breakfast, today have to say goodbye to the korowai people, and our complete luggage and equipment be partitioned to the porters, trekking back, sometimes we passing through different way back to the base MABUL. One night stay in Mabul and swimming, washing in the river.

Day.7th : KOROWAI – ASMAT (B,L,D).
Breakfast, packing all luggage and equipment should be put into the boat, departure time today really depending on condition of river, sometimes the water in upper river sirets is lower tide where we have to find another alternative to change smaller dugout canoe dropping us down to get more wider and high tide where our big boat waiting us, continue drive down through sirets river till the river monuth of brazza, turning left down and a short stop called at Soator district for break and to buy additional logistic for asmat. One night stay at Jinak village or nearby village.

Day.8th : JINAK VILLAGE – ASMAT VILLAGE (B,L,D).
Breakfast, complete luggage and equipment should be put into the boat, leaving Jinak for asmat village, arrive in asmat village, spending the night at asmat long house called “JEU” or at elementary school, rest of day by walking around for experience and familiarization.

Day.9th : ASMAT EXPERIENCE AND CEREMONY. (B,L,D).
Today we enjoy the spectacular of Asmat performance, heating drum along with singing a song, as Asmat tradition to welcome ceremony and accompany the guest into the long house or Jeu, how they showing the attraction of wood carving- the more famous carved object in the world, dancing, and maybe also paddling canoe and showing a bis pole, etc. at the end of ceremony people usually precent temporary market, they provide their things in sale. Walking back to our base for stay the 2nd night in Asmat village.
